Eye Care for Kids

kids eye examGood vision is an essential tool for a child’s success in school.  Early detection of eye problems can have a significant impact on a child’s behavior, learning ability and athletic skill.  Children do not know what “normal” vision looks like and may not know what they are missing until their vision is evaluated.

While many kids are screened for visual acuity in school, the American Optometric Association estimates that these screenings account for only 30 percent of children who would fail a professional eye exam.  These screenings often fail to recognize problems that can affect learning.  At Village Optical, we provide comprehensive eye exams that evaluate vision, eye muscle function, focusing skills, eye alignment, and overall eye health.  We are also experts in the treatment of common pediatric eye diseases such as conjunctivitis (pink eye), ocular allergies, corneal abrasions and more.

Infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at six months of age typically performed by a pediatric eye specialist. Children then should receive additional eye exams by the Optometrists at Village Optical at three years of age, and just before they enter kindergarten or first grade. Annual eye exams are recommended to ensure academic and athletic success.
